About Mark
"Find something that you love to do and you'll never have to work a day in your life."
That notion has worked for Mark Adams for nearly forty years. From his early flirtation with cubist abstractions past his heavily Dutch influenced figurative work of the early 70's into the theatrical world of dancers and mimes and onto the recontexturalized appropriated fashion series of the late 80's and all the while including commissioned portraits – in the words of Jerry Garcia: " What a long, strange trip it's been!"
Let's talk about process. I meet with my subject in my studio, where I get to know them and take some reference photos. I usually do some small oil "sketches" to show to the client to make sure we are on the same page, and during the process of completing the portrait, we will have several more meetings, again to make sure that there are no surprises.
